EVOKX Choral Concert

EVOKX is a non-profit choral group founded in 2010 by Mr Terrence Toh, who is also currently the music director of the group. EVOKX is the portmanteau of the words ‘evoke’, and ‘vox’, which means ‘voice’ in Latin. In our pursuit for artistic excellence, EVOKX seeks to evoke senses, emotions and memories through the music we make. We aspire to inspire our listeners into liberating their deepest sentiments and feelings. We desire to make music that resonates with their inner soul. EVOKX’s fundamental and unifying mission is to engage singers in community and social services through choral singing and performance.

The creation of EVOKX has brought together Terrence’s students, past and present and like-minded singers, providing them with a stage to further pursue their interest in choral singing. This is a choir where budding young musicians’ skills are nurtured, and their love for this art form, cultured. Staying true to its core, EVOKX adopts an educational approach towards music making. In making music, we inculcate and instil the values of compassion and charity in our members.

We would like to invite you and the members of your choir to attend our concert this December at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.

Last year, we held our début concert Evocation 2010: The Art of Giving. The allowed us to raise funds for the Singapore Children Society. This year we will once again be continuing with the Evocation series, Evocation 2011: The Art of Giving. The concert pays tribute to the elements of nature and its wonders, as a source of life and as a source of inspiration for artistic creation. We will be performing by choral works by Eric Barnum, Yongrub, Alberto Grau, Peteris Vasks and more, a thoughtfully assembled set of invigorating music that exemplifies how deeply human lives and emotions are intertwined with the forces of nature or nature itself.

This project, supported by NAC and Lee Foundation, is a non-profit concert. Funds raised from ticket sales will go to helping the less fortunate in our local society.

The concert details are as follows:

Title: Evocation 2011: The Art of Giving

Midnight Shift

Make the shift.

We're carving a different party scene out of the dark. One that was always there but never seen.

It's the afterhours, and we're pitching up a music meet. For those whom which the night means a little more than the day. For those who've had just enough, to want a little more.

What goes on is undictated, unplanned and left unsaid. A belonging, a code of conduct, a way of living that defies the rules of the opposite day.

Come see who else is up on the Midnight Shift.

Time
We choose a time when most parties wind down to begin. It's the second wave, the encore, the b-side. When the weaker leave for the true to carry on. For those who have just warmed up to get their fix in the deeper hours of the night, the twilight zone before daylight makes a break.

Music
This is not music dictatorship. It is not about the global or local divide, not about music trends. It's about music that moves your soul, makes sense in your head and feels good for the body then, now and forever.

People
We look out for music with one quality: timelessness. Featuring both international and local music souls, playing sounds from as early as the 70s to the present with the right purpose and service to the transcendent.

Space
We pick venues committed to quality sound, luring the right crowd in an environment that encourages peak performances, peak experiences.
